What is a Brand? A brand is like a blueprint. It is founded upon Socrates’ invitation to “know thyself.” A brand is a deep articulation of your business so that when you communicate with others (in person and online) you come across as your unique authentic self.

What is the difference between Branding & Marketing?
A ‘brand’ is really an answer to the question “who am I?” (a connection to your true self) while ‘marketing’ invites the question, “given who I am, how will I let people know who I am?” (being in conversation with your community).

When you skip the articulation of your Brand…A lot of coaches try to create their taglines, promotional copy, and their offers before articulating their brand. As a result, they:

  • Spend money without a plan (i.e. “waste” money).
  • Are not clear on who they are communicating with (audience) and therefore waste their own and other people’s time.
  • Are not clear about what needs their attention and what does not (again, wasting time).
  • Have a harder time being themselves in the context of work—which leads to a lack of confidence.
  • Try to sell from a place of “convincing” rather than “resonating” and come across as a type of person they don’t want to be (i.e. “desperate”, “pushy”, or “unclear”).

When you pay attention…When you pay attention to what you are really up to with your coaching business, you can save a lot of time and money (as well as frustration and confusion) when it comes to:

  • Deciding how to spend money.
  • How to portray yourself to your audience.
  • What needs your attention and what does not.
  • Being yourself in the context of your work.
